The Dream / Rising: These are instrumentals written by Tony Carey. We decided to ask Tony to play on our album as he had played on one of our favourite albums Rainbow 'Rising'. The opening track on that album 'Tarot Woman' starts with an amazing keyboard solo from Tony so we asked him to write us something similar for our album. He gave two amazing pieces of music which became intros for the first and last songs of the album. Thank you Tony!
Dreamstealer: This was the first song we wrote and recorded for this album. It features Vinny Appice and Jimmy Bain who were the original rhythm section for the classic DIO lineup. Then we added Tony Carey's keys to the song which is special because it reunites Tony and Jimmy who last recorded together on Rainbow 'Rising'. The song has a Rainbow feel which was the vibe we were going for. Vivien wrote this song entirely including the guitar riffs.
Streets Of Rage: This was the last song we recorded for the album and is special because it is the only studio recording in history to feature both Vinny and Carmine Appice on drums. We wanted to have one song with them both together as they were really helpful getting this project recorded. During the song they alternate between sections and trade off between fills. Tony Franklin played bass on the song and we couldn't be happier with the results. The song has a great groove and every musician is excellent on the track.
Fourteen Twenty Eight: This song features Vinny Appice and Rudy Sarzo who pair together nicely. Rudy is a very special musician with an incredible history so recording with him was a real honor. The song has a slow groove and some fun guitar parts. The song is about some people we used to live with in Hollywood and the title is the address of house we were living in at the time.
All That I Want: This song is the closest thing to a ballad we are likely to record. It features Carmine Appice and Tony Franklin, which is special because they also played on one of our favourite albums 'Blue Murder'. The song has some incredible drum parts from Carmine and Tony plays some amazing fret-less bass. The outro features an extended jam with a guitar solo which came out nicely.
Miles Ahead: This song features Vinny Appice and Rudy Sarzo. Its a straight forward rocker with some nice riffs and lyrics. We wanted to have something simple and rocking to contrast the more complicated songs featured on the album.
Soul Monster: This song was produced and mixed by Derek Sherinian and also features Brian Tichy and Tony Franklin. Derek also recorded some amazing keyboards and musically the song is very strong. Will Wallner is the vocalist for this song which has a dark epic feel.
Indestructible: This song features Carmine Appice, Tony Franklin and Tony Carey. Will Wallner wrote the music and lyrics for this song and heavily influenced from Blue Murder and Deep Purple. We call it 'Purple Murder'.
